Product Description:
The 2010 Tachyon XC Micro is the industry’s smallest helmet camera with features like water-proofing without an external case, a patented shockproof design, wide field of vision, and superior light-gathering ability. The XC Micro is also the only helmet camera on the market that can accept the entire range of Micro SDHC cards, from 4 to 32GB. The XC Micro’s condensed size combined with its easy to use nature makes it the ideal helmet camera for the adventure enthusiast. Designed for filming action in extreme conditions, the XC Micro comes with a universal mounting system that can connect the camera to goggles, helmets, sporting equipment, dashboards and more to accommodate the many diverse situations users run into. The sheer size, simplicity and extreme ruggedness of the XC Micro will allow users to forget the camera and focus on their sport. The new XC Micro boasts a high-dynamic image sensor and a 90 degree wide angle lens, matching the sweet spot of human vision, allowing users to capture clear, undistorted video in low-light situations or underwater. With loss of video due to loose battery connections being the No. 1 helmet camera complaint, Tachyon developed and patented a shockproof battery system to keep the camera’s batteries locked and secure, so video can survive the shocks of the most adverse situations. Camera users can have peace-of-mind as they capture demanding and often once-in-a-lifetime extreme situations. The XC Micro’s 4-hour battery life will also tide users through their adventures, without the worry of dead batteries that plagues other more power-hungry, expensive helmet cameras. The XC Micro’s use of common AAA batteries, rather than proprietary ones, means users can easily grab more wherever batteries are sold. Two Recordng Modes: Video and Time Lapse Photograpy. Time Lapse takes one photo every two seconds. View & playback videos directly on your PC, Mac, or TV (NTSC or PAL). No software needed

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R16DQ7GR1LWVT2 This little camera is a great helmet cam. With the camera in the band of my visor I have hands free recording of fishing that I am making into a series of “How To” videos for my website. The microphone picks up my voice very well with the body of the camera in direct contact with my head. Others voices are distant and generally hard to hear.Video quality is surprisingly good , the range of view is good . There is no zoom or pan and it makes really good quality video for my purposes out to 20′.The waterproof feature is what sold me on the camera and tying it to a line and hanging it from a kite to record Sailfish bites has been it’s main purpose in life.No leaks so far.The micro SDHC card is really small and the only way my computer would read them outside of the camera was with a USB adapter.

This is the best Cam I have so far.

    Pro’s:

    1) Excellent video – color, contrast, smoothness, sharpness etc.

    2) The price is nice

    3) Shockproof design

    4) Waterproof to 34 feet

    5) Easy one button operation with LED verification (with the lock system so it will not easily to shut-off due to the pressure under the water)

    6) Large memory storage capability (up to 32GB)

    7) 90 degree field of view – just about right for all around shooting

    Con’s:

    1) no LCD – which is not really necessary

    2) Sound quality

    3) use AAA batteries

    Conclusion:

For a action helmet camera like this, you will never be regret to have one.

This camera has great video quality. It is very rugged and terrific underwater. Great camera for the price and application.

Two things to consider before buying are: Microphone/audio recording and additonal mounts for baseball cap, or headband of some sort.

The microphone is un-useable if you are trying to record a conversation, the rear cover on the camera will have to be left open to pick up any useable audio. But, if you are using it on your motorbike or skiing downhill and don’t care much about the audio, then it works great… You can add music or natural sound later…

It comes with one mount and there are no additional accessories you can purchase to mount/affix the camera to something else other than a helmet. If you want to mount it to the top or front portion of your baseball cap, it’s not so easy without some additional home made modifications… A miniature tripod with minimum adjustments (leveling for example) would have been very useful as an accessory. Since the camera itself does not have a tripod screw, you cannot mount it on your own tripod..

Another thing to consider is that when you mount the camera on your helmet or any surface such as a tripod, make sure it is leveled, or all your video will be tilted to one side or the other. You won’t know that until you finsih filming because there are no video monitoring capabilities on the camera… This is made for ruff, action packed, upside down footage where the location of the horizon is irrelevant… There are no leveling bubbles on this camera but you can level is easily with an external leveler.

Despite the above features or lack of, the camera is excellent for lots of uses. The video quality is much better than other cameras that cost more $$$ and as a whole, it feels very rugged and well made. Being able to put a 16 Gb card and record about 4 hours of video is another great feature… If you carry your lap top with you, you can instantly insert the disk and edit a video to upload to Youtube etc… Another awesome feature is that if you travel overseas, you can actually play the video on a PAL TV in a foreign country… The camera outputs either NTSC or PAL…

Let me clearify that the above list is not a gripe, just a “WISH” list… This is a great camera for the money (period).

I use this camera to go freediving in the ocean. I attach it to my mask n go. The video is really good, easy to maneuver the video or pictures. People who’ve seen my videos always complement me on them. Only thing that sucks is the audio, but I understand why and that’s OK.

Received the camera today. Camera was what I expected, I’m happy with the overall quality of it. There’s always room for product improvement but for the low price they ask for this camera I feel quality passes expectations in a positive way.

A few hours after testing the camera, I had to call tech support. They answered the phone in two rings, didn’t asked for a ton of information, just what’s the problem and how can they help? They were American too!

Anyway turns out batteries were the issue and they figured it out within 30 seconds of the phone call. The tech then spent 15mins extra with me on the phone explaining some rendering techniques and the best types of batteries to use. Note: They recommend Use energizer ultimate lithium Batterys. Plan normal ones I had issues after 2 hours of recording.

I was floored, it’s rare in this day in age to be met with quality service.

I recommend this product, and i’m picky.

So good in fact, I now have three!

Simple to use & rock solid build quality.

I’ve mostly used it swimming, skiing & kayaking, but have also recorded friends rock bands by attaching them to drum kits, microphone stands & even guitar necks!

Brilliant for recording kids as they can use them, but cannot break them.

    Utterly reliable.

Energiser Lithium’s last for hours, as does the 16 gig SD card I use them with.

    Fantastic value!

Many of my friends have bought them on the strength of mine.

It you want to see my videos…

Brilliant camera, real easy to use, footage runs to both my MacBook Pro and my old Acer Windows XP laptop with ease, very good picture quality, rock solid build quality, I love the remote control unit and indication LEDs that let me know if its recording or not, great selection of fittings so that you can attach the camera to anything. I have used this camera in some very extreme condtions where it had taken a lot of abuse and its never let me down, if you want a sports can that you can have 100% faith in to be always working then this it. Oh yeah and the customer support from Tachyon is top class unlike some other camera makers who just never reply when I asked questions, Tachyon were fantastic to deal with. BUY ONE!

The research and reviews pointed me to the 2010 Tachyon XC, so I bought one. I’m glad I made the right choice. With its long recording times, I use this tough, little, gem to get some nice mountain bike footage. The versatile Tachyon XC is easy to mount, and very easy to use. It comes with a handy remote making it easy to control recording, even with gloves on. I’m having fun using the Tachyon XC, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great action camera.

I own four Tachyon XCs, and have been extremely happy with the video and their reliability. I use them mounted to my motorcycle and my helmet when riding on the track and on the street. I chose Tachyon for its ability to use 32 GB memory cards (hours of riding), rechargeable batteries and the shockproof, waterproof case. I am very happy with this camera and would definitely by another.
